Stony Stratford in Bloom – celebrating MK50

Stony Stratford in Bloom volunteers and children at the Stony Stratford Big Lunch and Fuller Slade MK50 party created beautiful hanging baskets which then decorated local streets.

Russell Street School children decorated 60 hard hats donated by

developers McCarthy and Stone. St Mary and St Giles School council and SSIB volunteers then filled them with gold and blue plants to turn them into gorgeous hanging baskets. These decorated the schools and the outside of the retirement home. Britain in Bloom (BIB) The SSIB and Fullers Slade Residents Association, with help from the Community Church volunteers, work tirelessly throughout the year. The week before judging day they removed litter and weeds in preparation. The BIB judges were particularly impressed with The North End Pond Project. The path to the pond was completed by Dominic Harris, who was kept busy clearing brambles. The It’s Your Neighbourhood Group and SSIB laid turf and planted wild flowers.


The grand opening was on 6 July and Janet Benn donated a magnificent seat, while Robin Nicholls made a beautiful gnome house. SSIB Front Garden Competition Results of the BIB competition will be known in September. In the meantime Mary Sarre and Pat Kyd, joined by the BIB Regional Judge, judged the SSIB front garden competition. The standards Volunteers In Remembrance Secret Garden – Sue Westall acquired this site for the benefit of the town; sadly she passed away in June. Wolverton in Bloom – Despite being unwell in Willen Hospice, Jenny Picking still chose the colour scheme for 2017. were high, making judging very tough!

The winning gardens were:

First place: 51 The Limes
Runner up: 109 Milford Avenue
Best Container Garden: 1 Horsefair Green

Many highly commended certificates were awarded.
