Meet the Essentially Local Team

Essentially Local Working for Local Business

The Essentially Local team is dedicated to bringing a great read, useful information and ideas for things to do and places to go.

Emma Johnson – Editor

I’m the editor and I started publishing Essentially Local over 15 years ago, soon after my son was born.  It was a crazy thing to do but I don’t regret one moment because I have a strong belief that being part of a local community brings great benefits.

Along the way I have tried to develop the magazine, met some amazing people and tried to be part of the community.  I am proud of many achievements but our Yearly Christmas Drawing Competition and Exhibition is one of my favourites! I’d love to lay claim to the idea but I have to thank one of my original designers for that.  In 2018 I set myself a challenge to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, on my own with my tent. It was an incredible experience but the support from the local community was the amazing part of it.  Not only did I raise a few pennies for York House Centre and Cancer Research it also made me realise I can do!  In fact everyone can do.

I’ve travelled the world, worked in all sorts of jobs, I volunteer yet I wouldn’t swap what I do now.

Suzanne Megarry – Advertising

It’s incredible to think that Suzanne began her Essentially Local journey nearly three years ago.  While her main role is working with local businesses and talking them into buying our fantastic advertising opportunities, she does lots more besides.  Her background in quality assurance means she has far more patience than me when it comes to setting up and using systems!  She also helps to organise our delivery people and make sure the magazine reaches every reader for every edition.

Suzanne is careful to look after and talk to every business owner to find the best solution to their advertising needs. I’d suggest talk to us before you go anywhere else! Take a look at what we offer on our advertise with us page.

Harriet Bull – Designer

I met Harriet through one of my suppliers and haven’t looked back.  Just after I changed my logo I wanted a new look to the magazine. She came on board full of great ideas and between us I think we are there!  Although we are always looking for ways to improve the look, the readability and the ease of finding things.

The dedicated team of distributors pop Essentially Local through your letterbox every two months. You are kept connected to all things local because of their contribution to the process. Finally keep an eye out – your next exciting edition will be coming soon!
