Meet the Essentially Local Team

The Essentially Local team is dedicated to bringing a great read, useful information and ideas for things to do and places to go.

Emma Johnson

Emma began publishing Essentially Local over 15 years ago, soon after her son was born.  It was a crazy thing to do but she doesn’t regret one moment because of her strong belief that being part of a local community brings great benefits.

Along the way she has developed the magazine, met some amazing people and is part of the community.  She has many proud achievements but the Annual Christmas Drawing Competition and Exhibition stands out as one of her favourites! While she’d love to lay claim to the idea she has one of past designers to thank.

In 2018 she cycled, on her own, from Land’s End to John O’Groats, with my tent. It was an incredible experience but the support from the local community was the amazing part of it.  Not only did she raise a few pennies for York House Centre and Cancer Research it also made her realise she can do!  In fact everyone can do.

She’s travelled the world, worked in all sorts of jobs, yet wouldn’t swap what she does now.

Suzanne Megarry

It’s incredible to think that Suzanne began her Essentially Local journey nearly three years ago.  While her main role is working with local businesses and talking them into buying our fantastic advertising opportunities, she does lots more besides.  Her background in quality assurance means she has far more patience than me when it comes to setting up and using systems!  She organises our delivery people and makes sure the magazine reaches every reader for every edition.

Suzanne is careful to look after and talk to every business owner to find the best solution to their advertising needs. I’d suggest talk to us before you go anywhere else! Take a look at what we offer on our advertise with us page.

Harriet Bull – Designer

I met Harriet through one of my suppliers and haven’t looked back.  Just after I changed my logo I wanted a new look to the magazine. She came on board full of great ideas and between us, I think we are there!  Although we are always looking for ways to improve the look, readability and ease of finding things.
