Make This Christmas Special for our Youngsters

The 2020 Essentially Local Annual Drawing Competition for Young Artists Flyer. Make This Christmas Special

This is a call for help to make this Christmas special for our youngsters.

Drawing Competition in Jeopardy

For the last 5 years, we have held an annual Christmas drawing competition for local children aged between 4 and 13. The pandemic is putting this in jeopardy.

Every autumn over 60 children draw, paint and create the most incredible pictures to represent what Christmas means to them. They send or take the pictures to Stony Sweet Shop. The incredibly, supportive owners, Mandy and David take special care until the big judging day.

It is incredibly difficult to judge and choose just 4 pictures to represent the year, yet somehow we get there. Once judged, we mount the pictures on Christmas card and place name and age plates on every single one.

In late November, early December, the fabulous, newly-framed pictures are exhibited in Stony Stratford Library. This happens just in time for the lovely Lights Switch-on Day.

We also scan and put every picture onto our social media feed as part of our daily Christmas Advent. Of course, we always include very positive comments to encourage the creativity of the children.

Libary Not Available

Very sadly, this year we can not exhibit in the library. Even worse, we can’t leave leaflets around the area. Even sadder is that it would not be right to send the leaflets to schools and expect teachers to handle them.

We desperately want to keep Christmas normal and give the children something positive, fun and creative to do. That’s where you come in!

Promotion

Can you help to promote the competition?

We want every school child in our delivery area to draw a picture and send it to us, either by post, by hand or a high-resolution scanned image.

We’d love to find a space where children, along with their families and friends can visit and enjoy the pictures. It might need to be window frontages or a dry outside area. If you know anyone or anywhere or have any other ideas we’d love to hear from you.

Prizes

We normally organise the prizes with help from local shops. This year we’d love to work local shops and businesses to make the prizes even better. Could you help by sponsoring or donating prizes? It’s a big, big ask but we really want to:
