Paying for a professional service you require is, of course, right and getting value is even more important than cost. However when the cost is so fundamental to the value it’s right to question your fee.
No more is this true than when it comes to investment fees. I’m talking fees to the investment managers and fees to Financial Advisers. I’ve recently come across new clients who were previously being charged 5% every time they invested and close to 3% a year! This is outrageous!
As a rule of thumb you should aim for total charges to come in at under 1% of the value of your investments.
