Last year Skyline Taxis, a taxi firm with bases in Milton Keynes and Northampton, expanded by investing in a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs).
The vehicles, which included one Nissan Leaf and three Tesla cars, are now a familiar sight in Milton Keynes. Not only that, they are already bringing benefits to the town.
Gav Sokhi, Managing Director of Skyline Taxis, said: “Not only does Milton Keynes benefit from an environmental point of view with less carbon dioxide being pumped out into the air, it is getting a reputation for being at the forefront of EV technology. Drivers are also getting more range from their cars which boosts earnings that go back into the local economy. Customers are also enjoying the experience.”
Gav top five reasons to go electric:
1. Cost savings
On average, an electric vehicle costs two to four pence per mile to run, compared to 10 to 14 pence per mile for a petrol or diesel vehicle.
2. Grants and support
The Plug-In Grant, tax reliefs, scrappage schemes and free charging points are all helpful incentives aimed at encouraging drivers to ‘go electric’.
3. Noise reduction
EVs are significantly quieter than petrol/diesel vehicles, which means less noise pollution and a more relaxed journey.
Electric vehicles cost less to maintain as there is a battery in place of the motor and all of the moving parts that may break or need replacing over time.
An electric car emits 15 – 40% less CO2 over its lifetime than a similar-sized petrol car, which is good for our health and the environment.
