Plans To Bring Stony Stratford Retirees And Nursery Children Together At New Development

Two generations will be brought closer together in Stony Stratford, following the announcement that a new 40-place nursery from Acorn Childcare will open in September on the site of McCarthy and Stone’s Elizabeth House Retirement Living Plus development on St Giles Mews.

The new nursery will provide childcare and early years education for the local community. Part of the unique experience Acorn Childcare offers is helping children grow in confidence and self-esteem.  The youngsters will visit the neighbouring McCarthy and Stone development regularly to spend time with homeowners and take part in activities such as reading, story-telling, and craft days.

The children will share the invaluable life experience, knowledge and skills that The Elizabeth House homeowners bring. McCarthy and Stone and Acorn Childcare are planning sessions so all involved will benefit from spending quality time with each other.  Everyone will have fun while Stony Stratford retirees aid the social development of the younger generation.

Zoe Raven, CEO and founder of Acorn Childcare, says: “We’re thrilled to be adding to our Milton Keynes portfolio with another nursery.  This will be our seventh in the city – our 11th in total.  Even more children will have access to a fantastic education that teaches so much.

“Being situated right next to a McCarthy and Stone development means we will part of a new community. We want to forge a strong link with our neighbours. We are big advocates of encouraging learning and play in natural environments. Our plan is to visit the development regularly as we already do this at another of our nurseries. The children get so excited on these occasions as there is such a liveliness from both parties.

“These visits are incredibly valuable to early years development with some important social skills and knowledge learned from each generation – adding to that, it’s just great fun!”

Stephen Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North London, commented: “Our homeowners are typically very active. They love to get involved with the local community and we are sure they will look forward to seeing the nursery children. Companionship is important at any age and it will be lovely to see how friendships are forged across the generations.

“We will have some great facilities and social spaces at Elizabeth House, such as a Club Lounge and landscaped gardens. These areas will provide the perfect setting for our visits from the nursery children.  We are fortunate to be neighbours with such a great local social enterprise and we are all excited to see how this relationship develops.”

The first homeowners will move into their privately-owned one or two bedroom apartment at Elizabeth House in summer 2018.  The over 70s will retain their independence at this Retirement Living Plus development which is possible because of the careful design. It also offers peace of mind with a range of round-the-clock security and support services.  Each resident can have their individual requirements tailored to their needs.
