Wolverton & Greenleys in Bloom had a successful year of planting, weeding and caring – resulting in a GOLD Britain in Bloom award.
Marks were gained for their floral displays and the environment (noted to be graffiti and litter-free), as well as the biodiversity, wildlife and sustainability. The judges were also impressed by the community and business involvement. Local contractor Axiom B assists with the hanging baskets, including the task of watering them. Dobbies, Tesco, Co-operative Funeralcare and KnorrBremse contribute financially, while many other individuals look after planters. Bridgman Landscapes trim hedges, weed the roadsides and take away the rubbish on litter-picking days.
Making Wolverton Special
The Secret Garden, the Urb Farm, the Community Orchard and Greenleys First School are incredible spaces. However, it is the local people behind their creation and continued maintenance that make them really special.
Wolverton and Greenleys in Bloom want to improve the Community Garden in Greenleys, as well as continue with their other projects. The Royal wedding and the centenary of the end of the First World War will be reflected in the planting schemes, which will make much use of the colours red, white and blue.
